Yandex Lyceum in Dubna

On 22 June, another graduation ceremony was held at the Yandex Lyceum. This year, it was already the sixth: 64 students completed the full two‑year course.

The Lyceum of the Yandex Academy opened in the summer of 2019 on the basis of Lyceum No. 6 named after Academician G. N. Flerov with the active support of JINR. The Lyceum programme was developed by the autonomous non‑profit organization of additional professional education "School of Data Analysis" (ANO APE "SDA" Yandex), lasts for two academic years and is aimed at students in grades 8‑10 that wish to master modern programming and development skills. Tuition is free for students. Groups are recruited based on the results of an open competition, in which students from all Dubna schools can take part.

Lyceum of the Yandex Academy is an important federal project in IT education. Lyceum graduates already have skills at the junior-developer level and continue to improve them, studying at Yandex partner programmes in universities and during an internship at the company. The Lyceum became the start of entry into IT professions for many graduates and we hope that having received an education in universities, the students will return to their hometown as qualified specialists.

At the graduation party, eleven freshmen were awarded Yandex Lyceum certificates based on the results of mastering the programme “Python Programming Fundamentals” and eight sophomores – on the programme “Industrial Programming Fundamentals”. Students that successfully complete the first year will continue their studies in the second year without additional entrance tests. At the graduation, the students were congratulated in absentia by Director of the JINR University Centre Dmitry Kamanin. UC has been our assistant and curator since the opening of the Yandex Lyceum in our city.

The students enrolled in the first year master the programme "Fundamentals of Programming in Python". In order to enter the Lyceum, knowledge of the language is not required, it is enough to be able to think logically, to analyze and to meet non-standard problems. During the first year, children gain in-depth knowledge of the basics of Python, learn to work with external libraries and master the principles of object‑oriented programming.

The second course "Fundamentals of Industrial Programming" is the most difficult and most interesting. The students learn about the technologies for developing projects, creating graphical interfaces. Sophomores meet real applied problems, create applications using various libraries and advanced development tools, write chat bots for instant messengers, teach Alice new skills. And what is very important - they learn to work in a team, creating joint projects.

This year, our piggy bank of graduation papers has been replenished with new projects. Sophomores have developed games on the Arcade platform, created simulators in mathematics and astronomy to study constellations, a collectively edited online encyclopedia, a translator from any language into Russian, an assistant for choosing culinary recipes for every day, a film library, a media library and even an analogue of Avito.

For two years of study, the certified teachers of the Lyceum of the Yandex Academy Roza Ershova and Nadezhda Semashko have been actively working with the students. Thanks to the joint coordinated work of children and teachers, the site in Dubna makes a significant contribution to the IT education of schoolchildren, attracting talented children.

Our site in Dubna invariably shows excellent results among other sites in terms of the number of graduates of the full course and in average score (and there are already 295 of them in 156 cities). This year, eleven freshmen successfully completed the first year of “Fundamentals of Python Programming” and eight sophomores completed the “Fundamentals of Industrial Programming”. Five of the most persistent and tenacious students became excellent students and were awarded Certificates with Honors - three freshmen and two sophomores, with three freshmen scoring from 80 to 100 points out of 120 possible. The Yandex Lyceum Certificate is a confirmation of the efforts, aspirations and hard work of Lyceum students and we are proud of our excellent students.

The freshmen have a very difficult and interesting second year ahead and the sophomores that have successfully completed a full course of study wished them success, not to give up and not to pass before difficulties.

Now, it's summer and you can relax but a new school year is waiting. Recruitment to the first‑year group at Yandex Lyceum will open in July and selection will begin in September, 2026.

All details about applying should be viewed on the official website of Yandex Lyceum and on the VK page.
