Recognition of contribution to science

A researcher at the Bogolyubov Laboratory of Theoretical Physics Nikita Zaigraev became a winner of the Medal of Honor of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The award following the results of the RAS competition for young scientists was presented for the series of investigations "N=2 supersymmetry in the theory of higher spins and supergravity".

Nikita Zaigraev's investigation belongs to the field of fundamental theoretical physics at the junction of supersymmetry, supergravity and the theory of higher spins - an area that studies the consistent interactions of massless fields with spin above two. Of particular interest in such theories is the fact that they describe the limit state of matter, where infinite-dimensional gauge supersymmetry of higher spins unites all fields and powers into a single mathematical structure. This infinite-dimensional symmetry is the maximum possible in field theory but in the observable Universe it must be spontaneously violated, as a result of which hypothetical massless particles of higher spins acquire mass and go beyond the capabilities of advanced accelerators. The results obtained in the series of investigations are significant for the construction of supersymmetric prototypes of higher spins, as well as for research in the field of quantum gravity and string theory.
