“Archimedes” has a birthday

On 27 June, the 55th anniversary of the opening of the open swimming competition pool “Archimedes” of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research was celebrated.

The competitions, organized by the JINR Social Infrastructure Department and the Dubna Sports School, was attended by 250 athletes, sports school students and swimming veterans from Moscow, Tver, Arkhangelsk, Dmitrov, Dolgoprudny, Lobny, Taldom and Dubna.

"So, the next anniversary has come," Pool Director V. N. Lomakin greeted the athletes and the audience.” “I am sure that "Archimedes" will continue to stay afloat, delighting all of you. We celebrate our 55th birthday thanks to the constant assistance of Directorate of the Joint Institute, the support of the SIM Office Directorate, as well as the city administration. On this day, I want to thank our glorious team, congratulate them on their excellent work, so that all swimming enthusiasts continue to feel warm, comfortable and joyful in our pool."

"It is supposed to congratulate the hero of the day on the anniversary," Head of the SIM Office A. V. Tamonov said, "I want to congratulate all sports fans, athletes and coaches. All these 55 years, "Archimedes" has been pleasing athletes with good water on which you can set records. According to all opinion polls, it is the most beloved place of leisure and recreation. Scheduled technical work will be carried out and the pool will be updated." Head of the SIM Office presented V. N. Lomakin with a letter of thanks from the Governor of the Moscow Region A. Yu. Vorobev for his high professionalism and great contribution to the development of physical education and sports. JINR certificate of honor was awarded to pool trainer T. V. Badul, JINR letters of thanks – to the pool employees Yu. V. Panikhin, A. N. Davydov, V. G. Zhukova.

Head of the Department for Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs of the city administration M. A. Bogomolov conveyed a congratulatory address from Head of the city M. A. Tikhomirov. In particular, it says, "The legendary pool for Dubna is more than a sports facility. We thank V. N. Lomakin for maintaining his high level and preserving traditions." Head of the city wished “Archimedes” new achievements and awarded the team with an honorary diploma.

Chairman of the Swimming Federation of the city of Dubna, Chairman of the JINR TUC‑22 V. P. Nikolaev thanked the pool team for the great work to improve the Institute's staff and residents. "The pool has become an almost city‑forming enterprise, which it is impossible to imagine Dubna without," he emphasized.

"I grew up in this pool, learned to swim," Deputy of the city Council of Deputies A. V. Charykov recalled. "Today, on Youth Day, I want to wish that we never get old, like our “Archimedes!"

The solemn part was short-lived and then, with the warm support of the stands filled with the audience the swims of the competitors began. It remains only to wish our favorite pool for many years to maintain this warm atmosphere and to always look like two "fives."
