Their names - in the history of science To the 100th anniversary of Academician A.M.BaldinOn 17 December, in Dubna, at the intersection of Lesnaya and Internatsionalnaya Streets, a monument was unveiled to one of the founding fathers of JINR, Academician Alexander Baldin. The full-length monument was made by sculptor Dmitry Yarmin. His works are already familiar to JINR employees and residents of Dubna from the monument to Bruno Pontecorvo and Venedikt Dzhelepov near the Cultural Centre "Mir" and the bust of Dmitry Mendeleev on Mendeleevskaya embankment. The concept of the monument was chosen by the son of Alexander Mikhailovich, Head of the Department of Theoretical and Methodological Support of VBLHEP Projects Anton Baldin. At the opening ceremony, JINR Director Grigory Trubnikov emphasized: "We are unveiling a monument to the honorary citizen of Dubna, Alexander Mikhailovich Baldin. At the request of the family, the monument was erected in the historical part of the city, on an open area near the forest, among the cottages where Dubna originated and where outstanding scientists, the founders of the Joint Institute, the organizers of great international science, including Academician Baldin himself lived." Head of the Dubna city district Maxim Tikhomirov stated the importance of knowing the history of his city, "The children of the townspeople, coming here, will know better those people thanks to whom Dubna developed and be proud of their great deeds." Anton Baldin thanked JINR Directorate, the sculptor and other project performers and also made a proposal to open another attraction in the microdistrict. According to his idea, using a plate with a layout of the surrounding cottages, on which QR codes would be printed, residents and guests of the city could learn about eminent scientists that had lived on the Lesnaya and Internatsionalnaya Streets: Alexey Tyapkin, Fedor Shapiro, Evgenia Zhidkov, Evgenia Donets, Albert Tavkhelidze and others. "Our neighbor was Yakov Smorodinsky, a student of Landau, he was also a popularizer of science, the door to him was always open, children came to him and he honed his texts on them," Anton Baldin shared his memories.
