The Scientific Council approved the decision of the jury to award the JINR prizes of 1961 to the three best papers of the Institute staff members. Among them is the paper of a team of the staff members of the Laboratory of Nuclear Problems: D.P.Vasilevskaya, A.A.Glazov, V.I.Danilov, Yu.N.Denisov, V.P.Dzhelepov, V.P.Dmitrievsky, B.I.Zamolodchikov, N.L.Zaplatin, V.V.Kolgi, A.A.Kropin, Liu Ne-chuan, V.S.Rybalko, L.A.Sarkisyan, A.L.Savenkov - "Cyclotron with spatial variation of the magnetic field strength."

Until recently, scientists implementing research in the field of elementary particle physics have tried mainly to obtain beams of accelerated particles of the highest possible energy. It allowed to delve into the field of new, unknown phenomena or to more efficiently study the processes observed even at lower energies. However, modern proton accelerators with an energy of even about a hundred million electron volts do not allow to obtain constant large fluxes of accelerated particles, using which it would be possible to study many rare processes that are of fundamental significance for elementary particle physics. Therefore, there is a need to obtain hundreds and thousands of times large fluxes of high-energy particles. Such a possibility, in particular, is opened up by the use of inhomogeneous constant magnetic fields in cyclotrons. The prize-winning paper was dedicated to a detailed investigation of this issue.

From 20 to 24 June, Dubna hosted an international meeting on nuclear spectroscopy organized by DLNP. About 80 scientists from Poland, Hungary, East Germany, China, Czechoslovakia, Bulgaria and North Korea took part in the meeting. During the five days of work, more than fifty scientific reports and communications were heard. The Head of the DLNP Scientific Department K.Y.Gromov, speaking about the results of the meeting, noted: "Nuclear spectroscopy studies the properties of atomic nuclei. The accelerators available in Dubna, in particular, the DLNP synchrocyclotron, provide great opportunities for carrying out such research."

The staff of the JINR boiler department will have to re-equip the boiler houses and the boiler room No.1 this summer concerning the reconstruction. A.Sorokin's team achieved good results. The locksmiths dismantled the old equipment and proceeded to install the new one in the mixing station.

This summer will be tempting and very interesting for the tourists of the Institute. Some of them have already set off on a journey through the picturesque places of our vast Motherland. And many are preparing for long trips. During the summer, more than 30 people will go on hikes. Among them are Sheiko, Sidorova, Kropina, Bogomolov, Antonova and others. Their route will pass along the Sukhum Military Highway and end in Sukhumi, where they will be able to pass the norms for the "USSR Tourist" badge.

The engineers Akhmanov and Simonov, the researchers Golovin and Vishnevsky are going on a hike along the Crimean mountain route. An exciting vacation awaits them. So, let's go, fellow tourists. The tourist vistas are calling you.

Our city changes, gets better. Not so long ago, the Volga embankment near the Cultural Centre was not very different. Today, it is a wonderful vacation spot. An apple alley stretches along the river that is decorated with snow-white arbors. In the evenings and on weekends, the embankment is always crowded.
