Priorities and joint projectsOn 10 March, a Session-Conference "Physics of fundamental interactions" started at the G.I.Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics of the SB RAS in Novosibirsk. The event was organized by the Nuclear Physics Section of the Department of Physical Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences and INP SB RAS. More than 30 representatives of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research took part in it.The Session-Conference is aimed at promoting the development of partnerships between scientific and educational organizations, strengthening scientific, technological and industrial cooperation in the development of an advanced research infrastructure in Russia. Welcoming words were delivered by Acting Director of INP SB RAS Pavel Logachev, Academician-Secretary of the Department of Physical Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences Vitaly Kveder and Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Conference Victor Matveev. The scientists talked about the need to consolidate the scientific community to develop a long-term programme to study the fundamental properties of matter. This approach, in their opinion, will allow uniting the potential of scientific and educational centres in Russia, formulating priority tasks and jointly developing interdisciplinary projects that are significant both for physics and for the development of new technologies. This is one of the key issues that will be discussed at the Conference. "I must say that the programme of the event turned out to be very interesting and eventful. It covers almost all the key areas that belong to the field of activity of our Section of Nuclear Physics," JINR Scientific Leader Academician Victor Matveev said. On the first day, two representatives of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research made reports at the plenary session. The status of the NICA Accelerator Complex and the experiments implemented on it was presented by the Chief Engineer of NICA Evgeny Syresin. Deputy Director of JINR for Cooperation with International and Russian Scientific Organizations Academician Boris Sharkov spoke about the development of a federal programme for research on the fundamental properties of matter. 280 scientists and specialists from leading scientific organizations, higher educational institutions of Russia and China, as well as from JINR have registered for the Conference. The scientific programme includes 17 plenary, 127 sectional and 45 poster reports on the main theoretical and experimental aspects of the physics of fundamental interactions: proton-proton and e+e- collider physics, relativistic heavy ion physics, quantum field theory, gravity and cosmology, fragrance physics, neutrino physics, particle and cosmic ray astrophysics, dark matter, low and intermediate energy nuclear physics, hadron structure and spectroscopy, detectors, experimental technique, accelerator physics and engineering, fundamental nuclear physics. The Session-Conference of the NPS DPS RAS will last four days and will end on 13 March. Selected reports and messages containing new unpublished results, on the recommendation of the Organizing Committee, will be published in the journal "Nuclear Physics".
