The first two lectures by Vitaly Kurennoy from the series "Modern science: the social structure of its ideas" will be held at the JINR Scientists' Club on 8-9 February, at 4:30 PM in a mixed format. The final lecture will be held online on 12 February, at 4:30 PM. The connection link will be posted on JINR Scientists' Club website.

Vitaly Kurennoy is a professor, Director of the Institute for Cultural Research at the Higher School of Economics of National Research University, a Russian philosopher, a cultural scientist, a translator and a publicist, an expert in the field of techniques of studying modern culture, the history of modern Western philosophy, the institutional history of knowledge, as well as social and political theory.

The historical and systematic analysis of the idea of modern science and the principles of its social structuring within the framework of the system of modern institutions for the production and reproduction of scientific knowledge will be presented in the lectures. The main objective of the lectures is to reveal the genealogical meaning of the basic components of this system that has been developed since the era of the classical schools of Ancient Greece and has different national colors in the modern world. Key concepts: artes liberales ("liberal arts"); the ancient idea of scientific knowledge; ex nihilo ("out of nowhere") and modern physics; medieval university: rise and fall; humanist scientist; Academy of Sciences; modern university models; research university; Research Institute; modern mechanisms for supporting scientific research and their social meaning.

On 8 February, at 7:00 PM, the All-Russian premiere of the film anthology "Open Doors Day" will be held. Seven stories of different genres about scientists and global environmental problems will be presented.

1. PHOENIX. Director and scriptwriter - Ksenia Kazazaeva. A revolutionary battery is born at Skoltech, capable of turning all the light around us into energy. But there is a paradox: the sun not only gives life to the invention, but also kills it. Will scientists manage to launch the time of new energy?

2. Popular science comedy "Situation: Hogweed!" Director and scriptwriter - Olga Domovtseva. A group of young scientists came up with the idea of making a battery out of hogweed! But it met resistance from activists of the Anti-hogweed social movement.

3. Fiction essay "There is still time". Director and scriptwriter - Polina Svezhentseva. A Science Film Lab student explores the topic of biodegradable polymers for soil. As the dive progresses, the environmental disaster looming over humanity-desertification is revealed.

4. "Superfly". Director and scriptwriter - Artur Sukhonin. In the future, when there is an environmental crisis and famine reigns, a group of biologists will try to develop a new food source - a modified fly. But is a person ready to eat fly larvae?

5. "N2e look n2a n2oil". Director and scriptwriter - Denis Danilov. A group of Skoltech scientists has developed an innovative technique for producing hydrogen that does not pollute the atmosphere, does not result in the greenhouse effect and can become a green alternative to gasoline...

6. "Project {carondura}". Director and scriptwriter - Konstantin Zemlyansky. A group of young graduate students receive their first professional task - to teach artificial intelligence to fight carrot sclerotinia.

7. "The city is falling asleep..." Director and scriptwriter - Alexandra Shishova. 200 thousand tons of rice husks accumulate annually in Russian industries and there is no effective way to process it. Chemist Roman Novotortsev is trying to come up with a way to dispose of waste...
