New sports infrastructure
"Together with the Dubna Administration and Governor, we continue to make our city better and more comfortable - today the complex of sports facilities on the Volga embankment includes such facilities as a skate park, tennis courts, a bike path, a swimming pool and a beach. Today, this basketball cluster that has not been in very good condition for a quarter of a century, meets the most modern standards. We give it to our beloved city and our Institute," JINR Director Grigory Trubnikov said.
"JINR in the city has carried out a large amount of work on the reconstruction of sports facilities, where you can both actively play sports and hold professional competitions. This is the high level that characterizes our city and all these modern projects are highly appreciated by residents," Head of the Dubna city district Maxim Tikhomirov said.
Head of the JINR Social Infrastructure Department Office Andrey Tamonov said that the Street Basketball Association was a partner of the project and announced the first major competition in this sport in Dubna in autumn. In the future, together with the Association, tournaments and master classes will be held on a regular basis. Andrey Tamonov also stated that the site will work open to public.
The captain of the Institute basketball team, a MLIT software engineer Mikhail Matveev expressed gratitude to Directorate of the Joint Institute. He emphasized that the new professional wear-resistant acrylic coating with shock-absorbing layers reduces the load on the joints and creates comfort for athletes.
Anti-vandal shields, modern lighting, new fences are installed on the sites and seats for the audience are equipped. In addition, two rings are installed on the streetball court at different heights that allows children to play.
The JINR Yacht Club received two new buildings for storing equipment, life jackets and other equipment. The new buildings were replaced by wooden structures of the 1960s.
"Today, we are opening a beautiful, elegant complex of buildings. These wonderful white "sails" are a symbol of hope, peace and international science. Many thanks to the designers and builders for the implementation of this project that has become a real decoration of our city," Grigory Trubnikov said. JINR Director recalled that not only employees of the Institute, but also the citizens and guests of Dubna of different ages can go sailing on the basis of the updated Yacht Club.
Thanks to the support of the Joint Institute, the Sailing Club “Atom” opened in 2024; also, in the Yacht Club, there are sections for adults in windsurfing, sapsurfing and rowing.
