Victor Matveev awarded "Person of Science - 2025"

On 6 February, on the eve of the Day of Russian Science, the ceremony of awarding the Municipal Prize "Person of Science - 2025" was held in the science city of Troitsk (Moscow).

JINR Scientific Leader, RAS Academician Victor MATVEEV was the winner of "Science and Life", in the key one of the five nominations, according to the JINR website.

From 1987 to 2014, Victor Matveev headed the Institute for Nuclear Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences (INR RAS, Troitsk), the anniversary of which was celebrated last year. In addition, since 2001, Academician Matveev has been an Honorary Citizen of Troitsk and to this day, he has been working at INR as a chief researcher. At present, JINR and INR RAS cooperate on the Baikal Neutrino Telescope (Baikal-GVD) Mega-Science Project. In addition, earlier, at the Baksan Neutrino Observatory of the INR RAS, the employees of DLNP JINR discovered a new type of extremophilic bacterium.

The history of the award that until 2023 was called "Person of the Year", dates back 17 years. Every year, awards are presented in several categories for significant investigations and development, as well as for achievements in education and public life. This year, the expert council selected the winners of the award in six categories: "Science", "Innovation and Business", "Young Scientist", "Innovation in Education", "Science and Life" and "Special".
