In memory of Evgeny Krasavin
"Today, we have a significant event related to the perpetuation of the memory of the remarkable radiobiologist, founder of the radiobiology of heavy ions Evgeny Alexandrovich Krasavin," Director of LRB Aleksander Bugay opened the event. "For many years, he nurtured this area in different laboratories of the Joint Institute. By and large, we can say that without him, this laboratory simply would not exist. He was not only the founder of a scientific school, but also a wonderful person who dedicated himself to his beloved brainchild - science."
"I think, E. A. Krasavin, as a real scientist, managed to do two main things in a scientist's career - to attract a whole galaxy of Russian and world radiobiologists to work on our projects," Director of JINR Grigory Trubnikov said. "He wrote himself into Dubna's history because he set a high scientific bar. The second thing that is also important for every scientist is the scientific school that he left behind. We are all grateful to Evgeny Alexandrovich for raising, gathering and leaving behind a wonderful, young, strong international team of scientists - the Krasavin School."
In the office of E. A. Krasavin, everything was in place. The papers of Evgeny Alexandrovich were added to the cabinets and a selection of photographs appeared on the walls illustrating different periods of his activity - from the establishment of the Biophysics Sector in DLNP, afterwards, the Department of Radiation and Radiobiological Research and LRB. The moments of his trips to foreign conferences and visits to JINR by leading radiobiologists from the USA, Japan, Italy and other countries are also captured. The office presents all the awards of E. A. Krasavin - state, by various ministries, RAS, JINR.
The participants were presented with a book-album "Evgeny Alexandrovich Krasavin. Portrait against the backdrop of the era" that included fragments of his interviews, memoirs of colleagues and friends, archival photographs. Evgeny Alexandrovich was born and grew up in Dubna and may have become the only representative of our city in the Russian Academy of Sciences. He was friends with V. P. Dzhelepov, met with V. I. Veksler, G. N. Flerov, Yu. Ts. Oganessian, N. V. Timofeev-Resovsky and many other outstanding scientists. As A. N. Bugay said, Vladimir Vysotsky, on one of his visits to Dubna, when something happened to his guitar, played Krasavin's guitar. The album reflects the first steps to establish LRB, photos of colleagues and the prototypes of facilities in FLNR, DLNP, VBLHEP.
As the most important fact of the biography of E. A. Krasavin, A. N. Bugay highlighted the establishment of the Laboratory of Radiation Biology. Director of JINR V. G. Kadyshevsky signed a historical document that was organized by LRB. Many research areas appeared in the Laboratory thanks to Evgeny Alexandrovich, it is still remembered at various conferences.
A. N. Bugay read excerpts from the parting words of E. A. Krasavin to the Laboratory staff for the 20th anniversary of LRB that was celebrated last year.
"I think we will fulfill the promise to him to continue to develop the science and work of training and our Institute will continue to carry the banner of world radiobiology high," LRB Director concluded the ceremony.
