JINR delegation paid working visit to BelarusOn 27 April 2026, a delegation from the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research visited the State Committee for Science and Technology (SCST) of the Republic of Belarus. The main topic of the discussion was the development of scientific and technological cooperation with Belarusian organizations. SCST Chair, the Plenipotentiary Representative of the Government of Belarus at JINR Denis Korzhitsky moderated the meeting. The parties selected a number of promising areas for joint work. In addition to cooperation in basic research, members of the meeting discussed issues related to material modification with radiation technology, supercomputer technologies, proton therapy, radiation resistance testing of microcircuits, the development of microwave generators, etc. The participants paid special attention to information technologies and computing infrastructure. The critical importance of developing high-speed network between JINR and Belarusian scientific centres in order to increase its communication bandwidth to 10 Gbit/s was noted. In particular, the United Institute of Informatics Problems (UIIP) of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NAS of Belarus) expressed interest in the experience of the Laboratory of Information Technologies at JINR in developing its own supercomputing centre. In addition, the expansion of the network of data processing centres (DPC) for the NICA Megascience Project was actively discussed: currently, a DPC for the MPD Experiment is already being configured at the Joint Institute for Power and Nuclear Research “Sosny” (JIPNR – Sosny) of NAS of Belarus, while the Institute for Nuclear Problems of the Belarusian State University is developing a DPC for the SPD Experiment. During the visit, the delegation of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research toured the National Centre of Intellectual Property (NCIP) of the Republic of Belarus, where further cooperation was discussed. The JINR delegation included VBLHEP Acting Director Andrei Butenko, LRB Director Aleksander Bugay, MLIT Deputy Director for Scientific Work Nikolay Voytishin, Head of the Innovations and Intellectual Property Department Igor Lensky, and Head of the Budget and Economic Policy Department Nikolay Kalinin. From the Belarusian side, the meeting was attended by representatives of SCST, the Ministry of Health, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Belarusian State University (BSU), along with other relevant organizations.
