Remembering Fedor Lvovich

On 23 April, a FLNP seminar in memory of F. L. SHAPIRO was held.

The winners of the F. L. Shapiro Scholarship Competition for Young Scientists are traditionally awarded at the seminar.

The report "Ideas of F. L. Shapiro - past, present, future" was delivered by one of the winners of the competition, a laboratory assistant at FLNP A. V. Andreev.

Chairman of the jury of the competition V.I. Furman explained why the seminar was not held on the birthday of Fedor Lvovich - 6 April. On this day, the Laboratory staff that consider themselves his students visit the grave of Fedor Lvovich at the Donskoy cemetery in Moscow. Valter Ilyich spoke about the life of F. L. Shapiro and awarded the winners of the competition A. V. Andreev, B. A. Bakirov, O. N. Lis, M. O. Petrova with diplomas.

In his report, A.V. Andreev analyzed the investigations carried out by Fedor Lvovich and his colleagues at LPI and FLNP and also spoke about experiments based on his ideas. And he concluded his speech with the words of I. M. Frank, "Thinking about Fedor Lvovich, I always see him young. The wealth of ideas, absorption in science, energy, courage in preparing experiments, high exactingness to the reliability of the results have always been typical of Fedor Lvovich, from the very beginning. They were equally evident in the investigations of twenty years ago, when he developed a spectrometer in terms of deceleration time - a hundred-ton lead cube and in the development of a neutron polarizer ten years ago, as well as in his experiments with ultracold neutrons..."
