JINR - Belarus: a course to expand cooperation

On 24 - 26 March, a delegation of the Republic of Belarus (RB) headed by the Plenipotentiary Representative of the Republic of Belarus to JINR, Chairman of the State Committee for Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus (SCST) Denis Korzhitsky visited JINR.

The Belarusian delegation took part in the meetings of JINR governing bodies and in a festive evening in honor of the 70th anniversary of the Joint Institute, met with a national group of JINR employees from Belarus and also visited the NICA Accelerator Complex.

The parties discussed the training of personnel in the interests of the Republic of Belarus and the organization of joint events, among which the School-Conference "Current issues of microcosm physics" plays an important role. The Conference serves as an "entry point" to JINR for scientists and specialists from Belarus. Young Belarusian scientists defend diplomas and theses at JINR, improve their professional level and afterwards, return to research centres in their homeland.

"Training in the interests of Member States is a very important area for JINR," JINR Scientific Leader, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Victor Matveev said. “We are interested in expanding the base of specialists that will return to their country and join in the development of new scientific areas there. At the same time, we expand the base of those institutes and specialists that later participate in our research."

At the meeting, VBLHEP Acting Director Andrey Butenko highlighted the importance of the participation of specialists from the Republic of Belarus in the NICA Megascience Project: Belarusian organizations have completed a colossal amount of high-precision work on the production of a yoke for collider magnets.
