Summer School on Particle Physics and Astrophysics

On 11 July, the 25th International Baikal Summer School on Particle Physics and Astrophysics started its work. The School will be held in the village of Bolshie Koty of the Irkutsk Region on the territory of the Baikal Biological Station of ISU until 18 July. More than 90 participants, under the supervision of leading scientists, will study and discuss topical issues and advanced research from the fields of particle physics and astrophysics.

The School's programme includes lectures by distinguished experts in multi-messenger astronomy, neutrino physics, gamma astronomy, high energy astrophysics, the Standard Model and physics beyond, as well as gravity; practical exercises on simulating physical facilities and working with real detectors; discussions in student groups supervised by specialists.

This year's School lecturers were Emil Akhmedov (MIPT, ITEP), Vladimir Ainutdinov (INR RAS), Ruizhi Yang (USTC), Junhui Fan (GU), Lily Yang (SYSU), Elena Nohrina (LPI), Evgeny Derishev (IAP RAS), Jianglai Liu (TDLI), Yufeng Li, Liangjian Wen, Weidong Li and Tao Lin (IHEP).

Evening workshops for students will be held by a researcher at the Department of Elementary Particle Physics Alexandr Selyunin and Head of the Sector of the Department of Elementary Particle Physics Oleg Samoylov.

The event will host a competition of scientific projects, work on which will unite participants in groups. The competition is aimed at a deep understanding of scientific issues and the development of teamwork skills.

The School is held with the information support of the Decade of Science and Technology in Russia and with sponsorship for students of Moscow State University from the ANCO "SMC TICHIN".
