Scientific dialogue in jubilee format

On 21-27 August, the 22nd International Lomonosov Conference on Elementary Particle Physics, dedicated to the 270th anniversary of Moscow State University, was held at the Physics Department of Lomonosov Moscow State University.

The event, organized with the support of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, was attended by about 400 specialists in the field of theoretical and experimental physics from 32 countries of the world.

The opening ceremony of the Conference was held in the assembly hall of the Faculty of Physics. Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Lomonosov Conferences, Professor of Moscow State University Alexander Studenikin, Dean of the Faculty of Physics of Moscow State University Vladimir Belokurov, Director of the Dzhelepov Laboratory of Nuclear Problems of JINR Evgeny Yakushev, Deputy Director of the Institute for Nuclear Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences (INR RAS) for research Alexander Panin, as well as Deputy Head of the Research Department of RFNC-VNIIEF Arkady Yukhimchuk gave welcoming speeches to the participants.

Evgeny Yakushev focused on the scientific significance of the event. "The Lomonosov Conference is an important international platform for obtaining new knowledge, establishing professional contacts and discussing key issues of modern physics," DLNP Director emphasized. "Among the wide range of topics presented, I would like to highlight neutrino physics - an area which the employees of the Laboratory of Nuclear Problems are extensively engaged in. This area, in my opinion, is one of the driving forces of modern science."

On the first day of the Conference, a chief researcher at VBLHEP, Head of the MPD collaboration Viktor Ryabov presented a report on the NICA mega-science project. In his speech, he spoke about the state, plans and physical programme of the BM@N, MPD and SPD experiments at the NICA accelerator complex. The scientist highlighted that at present, physical sessions of the data set on facilities with a fixed target are held in VBLHEP, active preparations are currently made for the launch of the collider and the MPD experiment, as well as the R&D programme for the SPD experiment is carried out. "Experiments at the NICA complex are carried out by the efforts of large international collaborations that are interested in attracting new participants to implement a major physical research programme," Viktor Ryabov emphasized. The start of commissioning of the NICA accelerator complex is scheduled for the end of 2025.

On 22 August, three DLNP employees spoke at Moscow State University. Head of Sector of DLNP Oleg Samoilov spoke about the research of exotic physics in the NOvA experiment. The reports on the latest results of the DANSS and nuGeN experiments were given by the laboratory researchers Igor Zhitnikov and Dmitry Medvedev. In total, the Conference programme included 23 reports from the scientists of the Joint Institute.

In 2025, the Lomonosov Conference covered the following scientific areas: Standard model and physics beyond, neutrino physics, astrophysics, gravity and cosmology, heavy quark physics, quantum chromodynamics (QCD), physics on accelerator complexes of the present and future, formal theory.

Within the framework of the Conference, the 17th International School of Neutrino Physics and Astrophysics was held. The event is timed to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the Nobel Prize in Physics for Arthur McDonald and Taaki Kajita for the discovery of neutrino oscillations.
