Between science and society

100 years of the magazine "Znanie - sila" (Knowledge is power)

In January, 1926, the first issue of this popular science magazine was published. A century later, it was honored at the Russian State Library.

The motto of the anniversary event was the phrase "One hundred years between science and society". It perfectly characterizes the position of the magazine beloved by hundreds of thousands of readers for many years that its authors and editors have invariably followed. It is no coincidence that the articles of many famous scientists and excellent popularizers of science appeared on its pages.

The recent decades have been marked by extensive cooperation between "Znanie - sila" and JINR. The investigations, achievements and plans of the Institute have been described in several dozen magazine publications - in interviews with Academicians V.G.Kadyshevsky, A.N.Sissakian, V.A.Matveev, G.V.Trubnikov, Yu.Ts.Oganessian, in reports from laboratories, in reviews of round tables and conferences. The active authors of the magazine were V.P.Gerdt, V.A.Bednyakov, M.G.Sapozhnikov, V.S.Pronsky.

In turn, in the Universal Library named after D.I.Blokhintsev in the 2000-2020s, visiting conferences of the editorial board "Znanie - sila", reports of topical issues of the magazine, meetings with its authors and acquaintance with projects were constantly held.

Of course, all this was thanks to the efforts of the staff of the JINR weekly "Dubna: Science, Commonwealth, Progress". No wonder in 2005, E.M.Molchanov, G.I.Myalkovskaya and O.N.Tarantina became winners of the annual magazine competition. And to the best of their ability, A.A.Leonovich, having been worked for almost thirty years as deputy editor-in-chief of "Znanie - sila" contributed to their efforts.

Serving science and education is the key to the future that unites us.
