*** At JINR, the Bulgarian scientist, Doctor of Physics and Mathematics Professor Ivan Zlatev took over as Vice-Director of the Institute. He was elected to this post by the checkpoint of the Member States in April this year. In Directorate of the Institute, he will be responsible for organizing research in the field of high energy physics and elementary particles, computing and automation, for the development of international cooperation. Professor I.Zlatev replaces Vice-Director of the Institute of Hungarian Scientist, Professor Dezhe Kish, whose term of office expires. *** Care for the health of employees, the organization of their rest are the basis of the work of the social insurance commission of the trade union at JINR. Sanatorium-resort treatment is of great importance in the complex of medical and health measures. In the first nine months of this year alone, 470 employees of the Institute and its divisions improved their health in the sanatoriums of the Caucasus and the Baltic States, Crimea and the Moscow Region. 970 people rested at resorts, including the Resort Hotel "Dubna". *** The public organizations of LHE make a significant contribution to the education of the staff. Work in these organizations is, as a rule, lively, creative in nature, since it is the creative approach that ultimately determines the success of the tasks they meet. Good groups of activists rallied around themselves the leaders of DOSAAF organizations, the Red Cross societies, the book lovers V.V.Gusarov, K.T.Bratolyubova, G.D.Borisova, V.A.Popov. *** Cheerful music at the JINR Cultural Centre "Mir" met Dubna residents that had come here for the holiday of the book "May there always be sun". On the smartly decorated square in front of the Cultural Centre, bookstalls were open. The editor of the publishing house "Young Guard" M.A.Belyaev, poet A.Ya.Markov, children's poet L.A.Nimara were invited to Dubna. The holiday was opened by the executive secretary of the city branch of All-Union Voluntary Society of Book Lovers J.M.Bulega. *** On 1 September, about 800 children will cross the threshold of the school in Dubna for the first time. 580 tenth-graders will start their last school year. The plan for admitting students to ninth grades has also been fully implemented in the city, 525 ninth-graders will begin classes according to the secondary school programme.
