Events Grigory Trubnikov visited ChinaOn 22–24 August, Director of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) Grigory Trubnikov visited China as part of a delegation headed by Russian Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov.In Beijing, the Russian delegation met with the Minister of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China Yin Hejun to discuss prospects for expanding scientific and technical cooperation and joint projects in fundamental research. In Hefei, the delegation visited with the Chinese Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST) of the Institute of Plasma Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The EAST’s results significantly contribute to the advancement of research on thermonuclear fusion. Particular attention was paid to the development of partnership in megascience projects. Chinese scientists are taking part in the work of international collaborations at the NICA Accelerator Complex at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research. “The NICA Superconducting Complex in Dubna is being commissioned with the participation of our Chinese friends. Employees of our institute and the Institute of Plasma Physics are currently coordinating a programme for the development of medical proton accelerators in China,” Grigory Trubnikov said.
The Russian delegation paid significant attention to cooperation in education. In Shenzhen, the delegation visited the MSU–BIT University jointly founded by Moscow State University and the Beijing Institute of Technology, where they noted a significant increase in the number of students – up to 4.7 thousand people – and got acquainted with the work of scientific and educational centres, including the laboratory of cell differentiation of the Faculty of Biology. In addition, the delegation visited Tsinghua University, where they learned about the modern scientific and educational activities of one of the leading higher educational institutions in China. A meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the People’s Republic of China Igor Morgulov took place at Russia’s Embassy in the PRC. Valery Falkov and Igor Morgulov discussed questions related to the ongoing Russian-Chinese cooperation in education, science, and technology, prospects for expanding student exchange programmes, and partnership in innovations. Other members of the Russian delegation were Russia’s Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education Konstantin Mogilevsky, RAS Deputy President Petr Chekmarev, heads rectors and vice-rectors of Russian universities.of the Russian Academy of Sciences. of institutes of the Russian Federation working in nuclear physics, and the RAS of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
