"Teachers are heard here"

The School for physics teachers from the cities with Rosatom was held by the JINR University Centre from 28 October to 1 November. The participants of the School learnt about the JINR Multifunctional Information and Computing Complex, the Superheavy Element Factory and the FLNR Nanocentre, the NOvA and Baikal-GVD experiments at DLNP, the NICA complex, visited the exhibition "Basic facilities of JINR" and the Dubna University.

Two days of the School were dedicated to learning about the textbook "Physics 7-9. Engineers of the future", a training notebook and a task book for studying physics at an advanced level, the teaching aid "Nuclear Physics. Grades 10-11", to master classes on laboratory work and on the use of information technologies to meet physics tasks. The teachers got to know our city in an exciting quest and today, they are sharing their impressions.

Nadezhda Ignatieva (Zarechny, Sverdlovsk Region): There are a lot of impressions and it takes time for everything to subside. We are all from Rosatom cities, we have been to nuclear power plants in our cities, so we know such levels. And the fact that we saw how physics is done today is great, it is wonderful. And we will carry all these emotions to our children and we will hope that we will be able to light new stars. It is gratifying that the authors of the textbook work closely with teachers and most importantly, they hear us and try to work more closely with the school, listen to the requests of teachers working in schools with today's children.

Viktor Podoroga (Obninsk, Kaluga Region, Lyceum "Derzhava"): It is a pleasure to talk to such professional people as, for example, Yu.A.Panebrattsev and it is amazing that he and his colleagues are engaged in the education of children, this is wonderful. It is considered that weak graduates that did not enter prestigious universities go to pedagogical institutes, but teachers are called upon to develop future generations, to teach them, how can one be weak at the same time? It is great what kind of research is carried out here, there were very interesting excursions, we saw unique facilities. As for laboratory work, I have already discussed it with colleagues, it would be great to establish interdisciplinary relationships between physics and computer science, for today, a lot of physical calculations are carried out on computers and computer science is separate. But it would be possible to interest them in physics via computer science.

Vasilisa Levshina (Volgodonsk, School No.5): I remember the excursion to the Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions, where we learned about the technology of synthesis of superheavy elements, they conveyed to us the essence of the process, now it will be easier to explain it to children. The laboratory work that we carried out here, perhaps, will also, at least partially, be included in our lessons. Thank you to everyone that studied with us, for your contribution to us and to the future of our country.

Tatyana Kopyryulina (Obninsk, School No.16): Everything we studied theoretically, we saw here in practice, we understood the comprehensiveness of our science, we talked to very interesting and passionate people. We had an idea to bring children here so that they could see all this, understand it and choose their profession. And the School is organized perfectly, everything is clear and we really liked the city.

Tatyana Kubyshkina (Obninsk, Lyceum "Physical and Technical School"): I am very glad that I came here, despite the fact that it seems like it is time to finish my working career, but it is never too late to study. I visited the laboratories with great pleasure to see a cyclotron with my own eyes, to learn about the use of membranes, about the neutrino programme on Baikal, it was very interesting. I have read a lot, but I have not heard about the research at JINR. I attended courses in Troitsk, so I have something to compare with, the people here are passionate, it is very interesting. The author of the textbook Yu.A.Panebrattsev talked to us, I think I am the only one here that works according to this textbook. It was very interesting to talk to him, the laboratory work was also interesting. I have always been fascinated by the experiment. Many thanks to the organizers for finding the time and energy to work with teachers, they understand that all hope is on us to improve engineering education and to attract children to physics.
