Winner of the Annual Sber Science Award

In 2021, Sberbank established the Science Award that covers research in biology, medicine, IT, mathematics, physics and other fields of science and encourages scientists that are extensively involved in research activities in Russia, whose research makes a crucial contribution to scientific and technological progress and opens up new prospects.

The winners of the Award were announced on 23 November during the Artificial Intelligence Journey International Conference. Each of them will receive 20 million rubles. Scientific Leader of FLNR JINR Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Yuri Tsolakovich Oganessian became the winner in the category "Physical Science". The prize was awarded for fundamental work on the synthesis of superheavy chemical elements and for his contribution to the development of the experimental base laying the groundwork for future discoveries and revolutionary nuclear technologies.

Winner of the Award "For Loyalty to Science"

Sergei Merts, Candidate of Sciences in Physics and Mathematics, a leading researcher at the Laboratory of High Energy Physics, became the winner of the prestigious All-Russian Award "For Loyalty to Science". The award in the category "Science is Fashionable" was presented to the scientist by Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov. The solemn ceremony of awarding the winners was held on 24 November at the Concert Hall "Zaryadye" in Moscow.

Sergei Merts works on the NICA Megascience Project and actively participates in science and education events, tells audiences of all ages about the collider under construction, its physical tasks and capabilities, as well as what it means to be a modern young scientist. Sergei is a member of the BM@N International Collaboration, the first experiment operating at NICA. The main area of his activity in the Project is experimental data processing. He is the author of more than 50 scientific publications, a participant in more than 40 international scientific conferences.

DLNP and VBLHEP Scholarships

On 8 December, at the meeting of DLNP Science and Technology Council, the results of the competition for V.P.Dzhelepov Scholarship for Young Scientists of the Laboratory in 2023 were announced.

New holders of JINR academic degrees

On 30 November 2022, an awarding ceremony of diplomas on conferring academic degrees was held in the Big Hall of the JINR Scientists' Club. Chairman of the Qualification Committee of the Institute Victor Matveev, Deputy Chairman of the Qualification Committee Alexander Sorin and Scientific Secretary Oleg Belov congratulated diploma recipients. By tradition, the event had a festive atmosphere. Guests and scientific secretaries of Dissertation Councils, at which defences were held, took part in the ceremony.

At the festive ceremony, diplomas were awarded to Victor Smirnov, Evgeniy Stepanov and Ilya Perapechka's supervisor Yakov Shnir, by proxy from the applicant. Alexey Eskin was awarded the diploma on conferring an academic degree on the same day. He did not have the opportunity to attend the ceremonial part. A few days earlier, the JINR diploma was handed over to a dissertation defender from Egypt, Mahmoud Abdellatif.

Victor Leonidovich Smirnov was awarded the degree of Doctor of Physics and Mathematics based on the results of the defence of his dissertation "Precise methods of the beam dynamics analysis in a cyclotron". The defence was held at the VBLHEP Dissertation Council for Particle Physics.

Evgeniy Pavlovich Stepanov was awarded the degree of Candidate of Physics and Mathematics subsequent to the results of the defence of the dissertation "Research of multipath routing methods to ensure the quality of the network service. The defence was held at the MLIT Dissertation Council for IT and Computational Physics.

Alexey Vladimirovich Eskin was awarded the degree of Candidate of Physics and Mathematics following the results of the defence of the dissertation "Energy ranges of two-particle and three-particle bound states in quantum electrodynamics. The defence was held at the Dissertation Council for Theoretical Physics at BLTP.

Ilya Anatolievich Perapechka, a citizen of the Republic of Belarus, was awarded the degree of Candidate of Physics and Mathematics following the results of the defence of the dissertation "Boson stars and rotating black holes with matter fields". The defence was held at the Dissertation Council for Theoretical Physics at BLTP.

Abdellatif Mahmoud Mohammed Khalifa, a citizen of the Arab Republic of Egypt, was awarded the degree of Candidate of Physics and Mathematics subsequent to the results of the defence of the dissertation "Dynamic symmetry breaking in physics of mesons and top condensation models". The defence was held at the Dissertation Council for Theoretical Physics at BLTP.
