"The history of the Synchrophasotron:
from the beginning to the result"

On 12 April, the Museum of History of Science and Technology of JINR hosted the jubilee seminar "The Synchrophasotron turns 65", dedicated to the history of the creation and development of the world-famous accelerator of the scientific Dubna. The seminar was met with great interest, it was attended by veterans and staff members of JINR, the teachers of the Dubna State University and the citizens of Dubna.

At the presentation of the exhibition "Synchrophasotron: the scientific breakthrough turns to 65" coinciding with the seminar, the guests were shown exhibits (sometimes unique) from JINR museum funds, family archives, from the Memorial Corner of V.I.Veksler at VBLHEP JINR. Here one can see the press of the USSR and the GDR of the 1950s and 1960s, biographical materials about the creators of the Synchrophasotron V.I.Veksler, L.P.Zinoviev, M.S.Rabinovich, laboratory journals, award diplomas and congratulatory telegrams. There are a lot of historical photographs, including the "portrait-autograph" of the antiparticle called antisigma minus hyperon discovered in 1960 at the Synchrophasotron. And a special aspect of the jubilee exposition is the Synchrophasotron in the heraldry of JINR and in arts and crafts.

A VBLHEP chief researcher, a veteran of the Laboratory Professor Vladimir Alexeevich Nikitin made a report on "The history of the Synchrophasotron: from the beginning to the result". The importance of the Dubna Synchrophasotron in Russian and world science was detailed by Vladimir Alexeevich in his speech.

Larisa Leonidovna Zinovieva made a memorable report of her father Leonid Petrovich Zinoviev and his essential role in the creation and operation of the Synchrophasotron. It should be especially mentioned that many of the materials collected by the speaker were introduced by her into historical and scientific circulation for the first time. In conclusion, the documentary film "The Lords of the Ring. The history of the creation of the Synchrophasotron", created by Kultura TV channel was demonstrated.

The seminar ended, yet the jubilee exhibition will be available until 1 May. And everyone is invited to learn about the exhibits on the history of the Synchrophasotron!
