For the JINR anniversary

The JINR Museum of History of Science and Technology, in collaboration with the weekly "Dubna: Science, Commonwealth, Progress" introduces readers to the historical series "The Golden Age of the Institute's Dubna". The author of the concept and essays is the museum staff member A.A.Rastorguev.

The first publication "A few days of a year. Institute Dubna - 1965" appeared in our newspaper in March of this year and immediately attracted reader interest. The author was able to present facts from JINR's life that had already become historical and ingrained in an informal, free and lyrical manner. The essays "The Institute's decade: results, discussions, plans," "In anticipation of JINR" and "Between the past and the future" have already been published, the next ones are in preparation and the series will be completed in March 2026, on the eve of our Institute's 70th anniversary. To mark this anniversary, a brochure "Conversations with scientists" has been published in the Publishing Department as part of a joint project between the JINR Museum of History of Science and Technology and the weekly newspaper. "About Physics, about life and about myself" that features interviews with renowned JINR scientists S.M.Bilenky, M.I.Podgoretsky, B.M.Barbashov and Boris Tatishchev, a French physicist and descendant of an ancient Russian noble family that once owned Ratmino. He concluded his interview with journalist Lyudmila Zorina with the words, "Knowing the past, move forward". Our museum has functioned in precisely this way for over 30 years. Currently, the Publishing Department prepares another work by A.A.Rastorguev for publication - a brochure by V.A.Shchegolev (FLNR) entitled "Into the past through thoughts". This is a compelling narrative of the life of a research scientist, his teachers, colleagues, loved ones and the cultural life of Dubna.

The first issue of the bibliographic index was published in 1966 and covered the papers of JINR staff members over a ten-year period (1956-1966). It is published annually. An archive of bibliographic indexes from previous years is available electronically and is presented on the main page of the Science and Technology Library website in the section "Services".

In honor of World Tourism Day, on 27 September, the Blokhintsev Universal Library opened an exhibition proving that you don't need to travel far to experience adventure. Photographer and bibliographer Daria Konova chronicles weekend hikes in her photo project "PoViDat".

Daria writes about the exhibition, "The main goal of this exhibition is to show how rich and beautiful the world around us is at any time of year and to inspire you to discover new places close to home. Even if you can't get away from the city for a long time, you can always find time for a mini-trip on the weekend. It's important to understand: a leisure doesn't necessarily mean long trips and vacations. Short trips at any time of year and in any weather are a wonderful opportunity to change your surroundings, to recharge and to gain new experiences. Sometimes, it's these small adventures that bring the most intense pleasure and help you to see familiar things in a new light."

The exhibition is held in the Great Hall and one can visit it during library opening hours.
