First meeting of JINR - Brazil Joint Coordination Committee
On 1 December, the first meeting of the JINR - Brazil Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) was held in a mixed format between the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research and the Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI).
JINR Director Grigory Trubnikov, MCTI Secretary for Strategic Policy and Programmes Andrea Brito Latje and the JCC Co-Chairs delivered welcoming remarks at the opening of the event. The participants approved the rules of procedure for the Committee and the Expert Working Group (EWG). The Institute nominated 11 experts on promising areas of collaboration between JINR and Brazilian research organizations and universities, covering a wide range of topics: theoretical physics, nuclear physics, accelerator physics, neutron research in condensed matter physics, ecology and life sciences, radiobiology, experimental particle and relativistic heavy ion physics, information technologies, as well as scientific and educational activities.
The Brazilian party will complete the integration of its delegation to the EWG by 25 December.
Representing the Brazilian party, the meeting was attended by Director of Data Science and Digital Solutions at the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) Deborah Menezes, President of the Brazilian Physical Society (SBF) Silvio Canuto and Director of Research and Development at the National Nuclear Energy Commission (CNEN) Wilson Calvo.
JINR's JCC members include JINR Chief Scientific Secretary Sergey Nedelko, JINR - Brazil Cooperation Coordinator and FLNP Deputy Director Norbert Kucherka, Head of the International Cooperation Department Otilia-Ana Culicov and MLIT Director Sergey Shmatov.
The next meeting of the JINR - Brazil JCC is scheduled for March 2026.
