Vietnamese specialists
at the Laboratory of Nuclear Problems

The summer of 2025 was marked by a new stage of international cooperation within the framework of JINR: a representative group of physicists and engineers from Vietnam arrived at DLNP.

Vietnam - JINR Cooperation Coordinator, member of the JINR Scientific Council, Professor Le Hong Khiem said: "The Vietnamese government reiterated that the only viable way for the country to achieve long-term welfare and prosperity is through the development of science and technology. In accordance with this strategic vision, the state budget for scientific and technological development steadily increases. One of the key priority areas is the use of radiation and nuclear energy technologies.

In the near future, the resumption of the temporarily suspended programme for the development of nuclear energy in Vietnam is expected. At the same time, plans are currently promoted for the construction of the National Centre for Nuclear Research that includes a 10 MW research reactor. However, there is still a serious problem: the lack of highly qualified scientific and technical personnel.

In this regard, Vietnam seeks closer cooperation with the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research... Currently, Vietnamese scientists contribute to the work of a wide range of joint investigations of the DLNP groups, whose results are relevant to the development of Vietnam's human resources. These investigations include materials research using slow positron beams, radiochemistry, instrument development for nuclear medicine, neutrino physics and participation in experiments at the NICA facility."

Under the supervision of Professor Le Hong Khiem, the Vietnamese group also proposed new experiments in nuclear physics using the DLNP linear electron accelerator.
