Start of Baikal Expedition-2025

On 24 February, the Baikal expedition on construction of a neutrino telescope started.

Due to the anomalously warm autumn and winter in Siberia this year, the ice on Baikal by the time the expedition started turned out to be thin and due to large day-night temperature differences - with a great number of cracks. Therefore, for safety reasons, heavy wheeled vehicles cannot be used. It causes problems both for the organization of the ice camp and for the delivery of components and equipment, as well as actually cancels the laying of the bottom line.

The ice camp is deployed, but due to the referred problems, of course, not in full: the cluster 14 is currently assembled, modernization and repair on the clusters 1 and 13 are carried out.

The equipment is delivered by all possible means under current conditions: railroad transport, hovercraft and even snowmobile.
