The expedition to Lake Baikal has started

The next expedition to construct the cubic-kilometer-scale deep-sea neutrino telescope Baikal-GVD has started, according to the DLNP website.

The first team of expedition participants has arrived at the coastal part of the Baikal neutrino station. In terms of expeditionary work, installation of the 13th cluster, modernization of previously installed detector clusters and the laying of two bottom cables has been held. It is also expected to carry out pilot testing of the next generation detector components. The expedition is attended by employees of JINR, INR RAS, ISU, SINP MSU, Maritime University of St. Petersburg and the Limnological Institute of the SB RAS. At the peak of the expedition's work, it is expected that about 60 people will be involved in installing the telescope.

"Preparation for logistics for the scheduled work has been carried out at a good level and we hope that weather and ice conditions will allow us to implement all our plans," acting head of the expedition, head of the Baikal-GVD facility at DLNP Igor Belolaptikov noted.
