VBLHEP: more than a hundred excursions in 2023

Participation in scientific and educational, as well as in science education events is one of the significant activities of the Laboratory of High Energy Physics of JINR. Such events include excursions to laboratory facilities. There were 107 of them in 2023. And in total, more than 1600 people visited VBLHEP.

As they note, at VBLHEP, such events allow to attract highly qualified and young employees to the NICA project, to develop new research ideas in related fields, to attract new partners to the NICA project and to increase the prestige of scientific research.

The most popular objects of the laboratory were the LUTI accelerators, the booster and the Nuclotron of the NICA complex. Most of the excursions were held here - 102 visits in total. The MPD detector in building No.17 of the collider complex was visited during 68 excursions and the superconducting electromagnet factory was visited during 41. About three quarters of the excursions were held in Russian.

Among the target audience, a special group includes students of Russian universities. 30 excursions were organized for them and more than 500 students visited VBLHEP facilities. Most of the excursions were held for various courses of the Dubna University and especially, for two departments the scientific practice of which is held at VBLHEP: Department of electronics design for megascience class facilities and Department of physical and technical systems. Seven excursions were organized for Dubna schoolchildren and ten excursions - for nonresident Russian schoolchildren. VBLHEP was also visited by 37 teachers and more than 250 conference participants and representatives of scientific organizations.

About a quarter of excursions, that is, 27 tours for 300 people were held in English. The scope of the laboratory's research was appreciated by more than a hundred students from foreign universities, some of whom underwent scientific internships organized by the JINR University Centre. A group of children from the School University at the Egyptian Academy of Scientific Research and Technology also visited the Laboratory. Three excursions were held for 40 participants of the JEMS International Internship.
