Students and teachers of MSU visited MLIT

On 2 March, the Meshcheryakov Laboratory of Information Technologies hosted students of Moscow State University. They learned about the directions of the MLIT research, studied the work of the JINR computing cluster, and visited an interactive exhibition.

For acquaintance with MLIT JINR, 3-5-year students and teachers of the Department of Automated Systems for Computing Complexes of the Faculty of Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics of Lomonosov Moscow State University arrived in Dubna. They were accompanied by Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Deputy Head of the Faculty for Scientific Work Vasily Fomichev and Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Head of the above Department Ruslan Smelyansky.

MLIT Director Sergey Shmatov and Deputy Director Tatiana Strizh welcomed the delegation. MLIT Scientific Leader Vladimir Korenkov introduced the guests to the scientific directions of the Laboratory and ongoing events, namely conferences and student schools, expressed hope for closer cooperation and interaction with MSU in the future. MLIT Scientific Secretary Olga Derenovskaia described the major directions of MLIT’s activities and modern IT technologies for solving scientific and applied tasks. A MLIT researcher Maksim Zuev gave details of one of the components of the JINR Multifunctional Information and Computing Complex (MICC), i.e. the “Govorun” supercomputer, spoke about its architecture and the tasks solved on it.

After the lectures, the students went on excursions. A MLIT researcher Igor Pelevanyuk talked about interesting facts from the MLIT’s history and presented the MICC. Then the delegation visited the interactive exhibition “JINR Basic Facilities”, where they got acquainted with all the areas of JINR’s activities. Thanks to the interactive models of the exposition, the students were able to look into all the Laboratories of the Institute and immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the experiments being conducted.
