Housewarming at 4a Vavilova Street

On 25 March, the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, on the 67th anniversary of its founding, as well as young people enthusiastic about science received a valuable gift. Inauguration of the new building of the JINR University Centre took place in the former building of the Dubna branch of MIREA.

About what opportunities the UC will have for promotion of science and classes with students and schoolchildren due to the expansion of the educational base you can read in our report.

Comfortable and modern

The red ribbon at the entrance to the new building of the UC was solemnly cut by Head of the Dubna City District Administration Sergey Kulikov and JINR Director Grigory Trubnikov in the presence of numerous guests.

The expansion of the UC with a renovated building equipped with the most modern equipment, in addition to the site that has been functioning on the territory of the Laboratory of Nuclear Problems since 1991, is a long-awaited event for the Institute. The decision to reconstruct and transfer the former building of the MIREA branch to the UC has been made jointly with the Governor of the Moscow Region Andrey Vorobyov with the support of the Dubna Administration and the patronage of JINR.

The renovated building has all the conditions for teaching and practical scientific training of students and schoolchildren. On the first floor, there is a lecture hall with a large screen. Events for an audience of 30-40 listeners will be held here. A pilot event, the joint School of MIPT and JINR is scheduled for the next few days. In addition, a meeting room, office space and a video studio for a social communications group are provided on the first floor.

The second floor is reserved for schoolchildren. The guests - representatives of JINR that gathered at the opening of the new building of the UC, were shown a fully equipped electronics classroom with seven workstations for soldering circuits and equipment for printing circuit boards. There is also a classroom with 3D printers, a robotics room and a spacious auditorium for physics workshops.

"Previously, classes were held at the Lyceum named after academician V. G. Kadyshevsky. We hope that due to the move to the new site, lessons and physics workshops will be attended not only by students of this educational institution, but also by other schools in the city," Acting Director of the UC Alexander Verkheev said.

The third floor of the UC will become the patrimony of students that come to the Joint Institute for study or practical training, both from Russian universities and from the JINR Member States. The classrooms are equipped with modern equipment for engineering workshops on microwave engineering, electronics, vacuum technology and other specialties.

Making science of the future

In his speech at the opening of the new building of the UC, Head of the Dubna Administration Sergey Kulikov called this event "a beautiful gift for the whole city, a project in which heart and soul is put. It is very important from a very early age to involve children in science, in the knowledge of the world, it shapes a personality. It is encouraging to note that educational activities will be held in the building that has previously housed the educational institution. Students and schoolchildren will practice on modern equipment, on such that is actually used at JINR. It will give young people additional impetus to come to work at the Joint Institute after graduating from universities."

To be a "forge" of future scientific personnel, to instill an interest in scientific research in the new generation from a very young age is one of the main goals of the UC JINR. Indeed, in order to meet ambitious tasks, the Joint Institute needs constant reinforcement of young specialists that are talented, burning with a desire to do something important, useful and significant for the world community.
