JINR CP session is held in Egypt

On 23-24 November, the city of Hurghada (Egypt) hosts a session of the Committee of Plenipotentiaries of the Governments of the JINR Member States. Egypt has been chosen as the venue for the session of the JINR supreme governing body to commemorate the year since the status of the Arab Republic of Egypt in the Joint Institute has risen up to a full-fledged JINR Member State.

The participants of the CP session consider the scientific results achieved by JINR during the year. In particular, the progress in the implementation of the international mega-science project "NICA Complex", the Baikal-GVD neutrino telescope, the status of work and the results obtained at the Superheavy Element Factory are presented. The participants of the session also discuss scientific plans for the upcoming year. The agenda of the CP session includes a scientific report by President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology of Egypt, the Plenipotentiary Representative of the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt in JINR Mahmoud Sakr.

For the first time, the Seven-Year Plan for the Development of JINR in 2024-2030 has been presented to the Committee of Plenipotentiaries that will be adopted next year. The members of the Committee will consider the results of the meeting and the recommendations of the Finance Committee at the meeting that was held on the eve of the CP session, as well as will adopt the budget of the Joint Institute for 2023. New members of the JINR Scientific Council will be introduced at the CP session in Hurghada.

On 21 November, a regular meeting of the Finance Committee of the Joint Institute was held. Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Andrey Omelchuk was elected as the new Chairman of the Finance Committee. The participants reviewed the Institute's budget for 2023 and the execution of the JINR budget in 2022. The results of the work of the Finance Committee were presented at the session of the Committee of Plenipotentiary Representatives of the Governments of the JINR Member States on 23-24 November.

Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Egypt Professor Muhammad Ashour welcomed the participants of the meeting on behalf of the Government of Egypt that highlighted the role of international cooperation in science and the value of the JINR motto "Science brings nations together". "Science always implies the joint efforts of countries for the benefit of the world," Mr. Ashour noted in his speech. "The cooperation between Egypt and the Institute, as well as the enhancement of the status of the country in the organization contribute to the implementation of this goal."

The Plenipotentiary Representative of the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt, President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology of Egypt Mahmoud Sakr addressed the participants with a welcoming speech.

JINR Director Grigory Trubnikov presented the main results of the current year at the Institute, as well as the draft of the Seven-Year Plan for the Development of JINR in 2024-2030. JINR Vice-Director Latchesar Kostov spoke about the participation of the Member States in the activities of the Institute. The execution of the budget for 2022, as well as the updated structure of the organization's budget that will become multi-level and will describe the items of expenditure in more detail, were reviewed at the meeting.
